I am typing this wearing my new and improved Joanna Mason bracelet!

I made it too small for my wrist the first time, too big the second time, and just right the third time. I am the Goldilocks of Joanna Mason-inspired beading, apparently. I camouflaged the knot better this time as well. Also, I wore my Mags bracelet out in public yesterday because FUCK YEAH, MAGS! Oh, and I used my gift from Kansan Entrails/Surrealist Dreamer to keep the beads from escaping. Thank you, KE!

Is it just the place where I live, or do craft stores in other towns also not have much in the way of yellow beads compared to the other colors? I shopped for beads for the Rue bracelet today, and I wanted to do it in yellow and pink and pale green to represent young shoots and leaves, but I couldn't find much in yellow. I got some beads in various colors that have yellow and pink flowers painted on them, but I wish there had been more to choose from. There were so many different kinds of beads in pink and blue and a good many in green, but I seriously could not find any solid yellow ones that were not the one or two yellow beads in of a rainbow-colored or shades-of-orange set. Anyway, I do like the painted flowers, and I think it's ultimately more appropriate to have actual flower-shaped paintings that are vague enough to pass for rue and assorted medicinal plants than just beads in colors that come close to matching the flowers of those plants. Plus, my search for the yellow beads turned up something even better-- green glass shaped like leaves! That is so perfect! I'm now trying to decide whether I want to double up on the glass leaves (I have plenty because while you can't buy more than two yellow beads without spends $50 on all the other colors, you also don't have the option of buying fewer than twenty leaf-shaped beads) or to look for other beads with birds or butterflies on them next time.

I found a variety of glass and stone beads in shades of green and greenish-yellow (never greenish-yellow by itself, of course, because that might give the other yellows ideas or something) that would be appropriately colored for Earth Kingdom shenanigans, but I worry that they're too smooth for a Toph bracelet. I want that bracelet to have a lot of texture, so that someone who can't see the variation in color could still feel a pattern. There are some rather cool carved jade pieces that I really want to use, but I'm going to have to wait until they go on sale or something.

Also, I ran into one of my former committee members while shopping today. She seemed really happy to see me and excited for me because I got accepted to a new program. That was a huge relief to me, as I'd been worried for a long time that she wouldn't want to see me again because of all the stressed I caused for her and the rest of my committee in the year leading up to my thesis defense. Meeting her again turned out to be very pleasant and fun, though.
