Busy for a Sunday

I made some more cleaning progress today. I'm not yet satisfied with the State of This Flat, but it's getting there.

I worked a little on Narayan shenanigans and my matriarchy with magic water; problem is, I keep adding to the store of myths and legends instead of advancing the "present day" plot. This would be fine if I wanted to write Ursula LeGuin style alt anthropology collections instead of conventionally structured narratives. I guess I want to do both, but I seem to be tilting pretty far toward the "Way back in the long, long ago . . . " and "The following three pages are an overview of recurring poetic and lyric motifs" side these days. Maybe I'll get back in balance if I just keep going and wait until my sense for immediate, personal narrative comes back.

I borrowed new-to-me books, so I have plenty to read for the coming week.

Hey, you gotta hammer out as much detail as you can before you hit on a good story idea.

But I already have at least medium-good story ideas, I just keep going, "Well, I can't have characters in a completely different world walking around calling each other Jane and Bob and celebrating Christmas, so . . . [two hours later] and that, my children, was how our great nation was founded, so don't let any of those people who believe that other story with the giant turtles tell you different."
