Maybe . . .

I'm leaning more and more toward actually watching X-Men: First Class. It has Moira MacTaggart in it and Mystique and Hank McCoy, in addition to the Xavier/Magneto! Okay, so it does have Havok in it too, but at least his glowing hula hoop powers look funny. The biggest thing holding me back right now is that I am SEVERELY skeeved out by how the only woman (or underage girl, rather) of color in the cast is grossly sexualized in the promotional materials. Yes, I know she's one of Grant Morrison's original characters, and I know he portrayed in dubious ways from the beginning, but starting her over in a different continuity provides opportunities to fix the problems, and I fear the movie might have made them worse. I wish I could hope that the movie will address the way she's been treated as a serious issue entangled with sexism and racism, but I'd just be setting myself up for a fall again, wouldn't I?
